What we believe in is that using plastic disposables is bad for the environment, pollute seas and oceans and affect ourselves in many ways. We want to make one thing clear. We are not against plastic! We live in a world where we have plastics all around us – cars, computers, mobile phones etc. But the amount of plastic in those products are nothing compared to the annual production of the industry. There are 300 million tons of plastic products manufactured each year, most of which have very short live.
Why plastic straws are not so great:
– They are not produced from 100% pure plastic material (polypropylene). A lot of additives are used during production in order to make the product even cheaper. This mixed plastic, as a final product is not suitable for recycling even straight after the production line.
– The plastic straw is very light. It weighs around 0,5 grams. Collecting such lightweight product is almost impossible, unless discarded in appropriate collecting points. Should the straw be thrown away, the chances to be recycled are close to zero.
– Each year 1 000 000 seabirds and 100 000 sea and ocean animals die, digesting plastic waste wrongly taking it for food.
– Plastic straws degrade for approximately 200 years in the environment. Think for a second. Nearly every plastic straw, ever produced is still somewhere around us.
Why paper straws are really GREAT:
– They are made of paper. Paper is natural sustainable, biodegradable and renewable material. The urban myth paper is just reckless logging is just not true. All paper mills make their paper from certified forests, especially planted for the paper industry. The furniture we use is produced from the same certified trees. Have you thought about all wooden products we are using day in and day out? Did it cross your mind they have come from illegally harvested forests?
– The paper straw can be easily recycled together with normal paper and board. It would be hard to collect it for recycling BUT if it goes to the ocean, the straw will degrade in several weeks. Should it go to the environment it will degrade in couple of months. Much better than its plastic sister, what do you say?
– The paper straw is produced in Bulgaria!
– The paper straw is made of 100% certified materials for food contact. When you buy paper straws make sure they are produced with accordance of all food standards!
Just enjoy your favorite drink, with your favorite straw, just like you have done for years, without being worried your straw would take part in the global warming and Earth pollution.
